Your Pet's Physical Health

Your pet should have an annual medical exam just like you do! By NY state law, our dogs are required to be vaccinated against rabies. They should also be vaccinated against a variety of other illnesses depending on certain factors. The following is a wonderful guide on vaccinations for your dog and shows an easy to read chart on vaccines and what they are for: Vaccinating Fido in the 21st Century

Dog Health Guidelines For Owners

Pet your animal often and use the time to check for any unusual lumps or growths

Check your pet's ears, that they are clear and clean of any dirt, debris, odor or discharge
Check your pet's eyes for discharge, redness or swelling
Keep your pet's nails trimmed and make sure they don't interfere with comfort or walking
Check your pet's teeth and mouth for plaque, healthy gums & teeth, bad breath can be a sign of gum disease
Know your animals. If they stop eating, act differently, become lethargic, are overly itchy, licking or scratching, if their bathroom habits change, see a vet to have them checked out

Understand your dog's behavior. It's crucial to a behaviorally sound dog, a well socialized dog and a better relationship with your dog.
